Custom RC Car Bodies
Once you've started to get into radio controlled cars, you'll probably be interested in tricking your car out a little bit, so it pays to know the ins and outs of RC car bodies. While it's possible to really tweak and customize the inner works of your RC car, the easiest way to really make it feel like your own thing is to work on the body.
The standard body that comes with most RC cars is the buggy version, but this body can be easily removed and replaced. The most common alternatives are body styles that mimic popular car and truck models, but you can also find other designs, such as Formula One racers.
RC cars generally come in 1:8, 1:10, 1:12 and 1:18 scales so when you're out looking for a new body for your car you're going to need to know what size of chassis you have. Once you know that, it's just a matter of deciding whether you want to go with pre-built or custom bodies.
Pre-builts are available in a wide range of colors and body styles. Basically any car on the road, or any truck, is going to be available in pretty much any color you want, including being fitted out with your favorite NASCAR colors.
If you're light on time, pre-built RC car bodies are definitely the way to go, but custom built is what will allow you to get the car that you exactly want. The most basic level of custom building is to pick up a clear body of whatever style you want, and paint it yourself. This is fairly cheap and easy, and will allow you to have some fun working on it.
The next step up is to get a custom body for your car. There are two ways to do this; do it yourself or professionally. Professionally done custom bodies can be made to virtually any specifications, but you need to be prepared to shell out at least a couple hundred bucks.
The DIY method is cheaper, but it requires a good amount of skill, time and creative ability to get something you really like. Regardless of what you choose, customizing RC car bodies is the best way to make your car your own.
