Gas RC Cars

Gas RC cars, also known as gassers or fuelies, are one of the three basic types of radio controlled cars. The most common kind, the one that most people think of when they think of RC cars, is the electric powered kind. While this is the most common type, RC cars can also run on Nitro and gasoline.

Nitro is not, as you might be thinking, nitrous oxide; it’s actually a mix of alcohol, nitro-methane and oil. Likewise, gas RC cars actually run on premixed gas and oil, much like your lawnmower.

All three types have their advantages and disadvantages. Nitro fueled cars are the fastest, but they also cost a lot more to maintain. Electric cars are slower, but they require far less maintenance and are generally much cheaper.

Gas RC cars tend to combine the best of both electric RC cars and Nitro RC cars. They go faster than electric cars, in general, and they are much cheaper to maintain and run than Nitro cars.

The downside is that you have to sacrifice top end speed. Because of the nature of the engine in them, gas cars are heavier than and not quite as efficient as the Nitro cars, so they don’t hit the sort of ridiculous speeds that the Nitro cars do. The upside to the heavier construction and somewhat slower speeds is that the gas powered cars are more resilient and take a lot less work to maintain.

Both Nitro and gas RC cars have a speed advantage over electric cars, although the amount of money you’re willing to spend can overcome this generalization as a very expensive electric RC may be faster than a very cheap gas powered one.

They are also easier to refuel, which can be a pretty big plus. You can have a gas RC car refueled and running in seconds where as even if you have a fresh battery available, you’re going to have to take the car apart to install it. This can be a big hassle and is a big plus for gas RC cars.

If you’re looking for an RC car that is faster and more realistic than an electric RC car but cheaper and easier to maintain than the Nitro cars, then a gas RC car is going to be an ideal fit for you.
