Nitro RC Cars
If pure speed is what you’re after in a radio controlled car, then Nitro RC cars are the way to go. Of the three types of RC car typically available, electric, gasoline and Nitro, they are by far the fastest. Seventy five miles an hour fast to put a number on it.
That’s a lot of speed for a vehicle less than two feet long, more than twice the speed of an electric RC car, and there are advantages and disadvantages to getting a car that can put out that kind of power.
Nitro RC cars run on Nitro, which is a mixture of alcohol, nitro-methane and oil. Nitro comes in a variety of mixes, depending on what kind of car you’re operating, and is available either at your local hobby store or from the internet.
Using Nitro as fuel allows for a lighter car that moves at high speeds, and it also allows for much quicker refueling, which can save you a lot of time and hassle. The downside to speed and convenience is price and maintenance.
The obvious expense is the Nitro fuel itself, which is more expensive than the gas and oil mix that gasoline powered RC cars use, and much more expensive than the cost of recharging a battery. Because these cars are light and wickedly fast, they are also much more vulnerable to damage from collisions and overall wear and tear from high performance racing. If you buy one of these Nitro RC cars, you’re going to need a lot of money for the ongoing repairs and replacement parts.
In general, you’re going to need to be prepared to spend a lot more time in the care and maintenance of this kind of car compared to their electric counterparts. They have actual engines that are going to need to be adjusted and repaired, and you will probably find yourself wanting to tweak them to get the most speed and power out of them.
Basically, whether or not you will want to purchase a Nitro RC car will come down to what you want out of the car. If you’re just looking for something fun to fool around with in your backyard, an electric car will do fine. If you want to burn up the blacktop, then there is no other option but the Nitro RC car.
