RC Car Track Ideas

Radio controlled cars are fun; there’s no doubt about that, and an RC car track can make it even more fun. Aside from the fact that racing in general tends to be pretty fun, RC cars allow you to indulge in the kind of racing tactics that would be downright dangerous (or maybe just reckless) in real life.

But unless you’re living in an area blessed with a natural abundance of areas where you zip along and race to your heart’s content, you’re probably going to want to start looking into finding or building an RC car track.

Aside from having a place to race where you don’t have to fight off wildlife and local authorities, these tracks also make it easier to actually race, because you have a defined area with known obstacles, making it easier to hone your skills.

If you decide to find a track, your local hobby shop is a good place to start. Many of them already have tracks in place, and if they don’t, they’re likely to know where one is. If they don’t, or you just don’t have a hobby shop nearby, the internet is going to be the best place to try and find a local track.

On the other hand, having to drive to other people’s tracks can be a drag, so you might want to consider building your own track. This isn’t nearly as a difficult as you might think, although it does require you to have the space and be willing to put in the effort to get it done.

You can install your own RC car track outdoors or indoors. Building one outdoors is a little easier – all you really need is the space and some tools to build it with. Just dig out the track, level the surface and add some obstacles.

The outdoor track has the disadvantage of being, well, outside, where you are vulnerable to the weather. If you have a basement or a garage, then an indoor track might be the way to go. What you’re going to need is some plywood to make the jumps and some wood to serve as the outside barriers of the track.

Whatever you choose, a track can take you to the next level of fun with your RC cars.
